Una vecchia conoscenza del roller hockey italiano: Joey Doran, americano classe 1990, ex Pirati Civitavecchia, ha 
recentemente vinto il Narch West Coast con i Pama Cyclones. Il giocatore, protagonista anche in Francia negli anni passati con il Rethel, ha rilasciato un’intervista ad Hockeyinlineitalia, disponibile sia in italiano che in inglese.
Lei ha vinto il Narch. Quale era la sua squadra? Quali emozioni si provano?
“Si, ho avuto la gioia di vincere il Narch relativo alla costa ovest quest’anno con la mia squadra, il Pama Cyclones. Sono emozioni incredibili ed è stata la prima volta che ho vinto il torneo Pro”.
Come era il livello del torneo? Cosa ne pensa?
“Quest’anno il torneo non era difficile come negli anni passati perchè è stato diviso in due, est ed ovest. C’erano comunque squadre di assoluto livello e per vincere abbiamo dovuto sconfiggere le migliori squadre del paese, quindi per me è stata comunque una grossa soddisfazione”.
Lei ha giocato in Italia ed in Francia. Quali sono le maggiori differenze?
“Sì, ho giocato in entrambe le nazioni e sono entrambi bellissimi posti in cui giocare. Per quello che posso dire in Francia il livello di gioco è leggermente più veloce, probabilmente perchè lì si possono portare più stranieri e questi contribuiscono ad alzare il livello della competizione. In Italia succede lo stesso, ma non così tanto”.
Le piacerebbe tornare in Europa?
“Sì, mi piacerebbe molto tornare in Europa se solo trovassi una buona squadra ed un buon accordo. Mi piacerebbe moltissimo tornare in Italia, sono 5 ani che manco dal Bel Paese e mi manca molto. Io ed il mio amico Taylor Kane vorremmo venire questa stagione, se c’è qualche squadra interessata per favore ci contatti a joseph.doran@aol.com”.
Cosa pensa dei Mondiali FIRS e di quelli IIHF?
“Penso che il Mondiale IIHF sia di altissimo livello, probabilmente la competizione di roller hockey dal livello più alto che esista. Il FIRS invece non è molto buono, almeno per quanto riguarda gli americani: il fatto che bisogni pagare per partecipare fa sì che non vadano i più meritevoli ma solamente coloro che se lo possono permettere. Non credo che ciò sia giusto quando si parla di Nazionale”.

You win Narch. Which was your team? What do you feel?
“Yes we won the West Coast Narch this year. My team is the Pama Cyclones. It was an incredible feeling winning that tournament, it was the first Narch Pro summer tournament I have ever won”.
How was the level of the tournament? What do you think about that?
“This year both Narch tournaments weren’t as difficult as before because there was 2 (West and East coast). That being said there was some very good teams there still. We had to beat some of the top teams in the country to win, so to me it is still a big deal”.
You played in Italy and in France. Which are the main differences?
“Yes I have played in both Italy and france. They are both great places to play. I would have to say the main difference is the games in France are a little bit faster. I think the french teams bring in more “stranger” players so that makes the level a little better. Italian teams do the same, but I feel not as much”.
Would you like to come back in Europe?
“Yes I would love to come back to Europe, if I could find a good team and the price was right. I would really love to play in Italy again. Its been about 5 years since i’ve been there and I really miss it. What do you think about FIRS and IIHF world championship?
I think IIHF is a great tournament, probably the highest level of roller hockey you can play. FIRS on the other hand I think isn’t very good, for Americans at least. They don’t pay for the players anymore so the team is filled with people who have money rather than players that deserve to be there. You shouldn’t have to pay to play for your national team”.
